A Guide to Cellar Conversions
Converting your basement is a great way to both gain extra living space, and add value to your home. By converting a basement in a two storey house you could get as much as 50 per cent more floor area without having to increase the size of the building's footprint or having to sacrifice your outdoor space. While loft conversions lend themselves to additional bedrooms, basements provide significantly more flexibility in terms of their use; from kitchens to playrooms, to offices and gyms.
Basement conversions in those properties which have an existing cellar beneath can be completed within a matter of weeks, and simple basement conversions can cost roughly the same amount per square meter as you would expect to pay for a loft conversion. The key to cellar conversions, like with any building work, is that you've got to get it right!
