Case Study: Birkindale Road, Sheffield

"After a disasterous cellar conversion by a local general builder, we decided to seek out a reliable specialist in basement work. We chose Yorkshire Basement Systems after a lot of research, due to their specialist knowledge of waterproofing technologies, experience and skills. Yorkshire basement Systems were very open, and happy for us to visit the homes of former customers, and see the different stages of a current project. When the team came to do our basement we found them all to be good humoured and friendly, and we got on well. We are very happy with the finished product, which has transformed our home. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to others. "
Alistair & Liz

The House:
A Victorian bay-fronted terraced house

The Conversion:
Basement Size: 30 sq. m split into 2 areas

Project Duration: 10 weeks

The clients, Alistair and Liz, required a basement conversion to gain an additional en-suite bedroom and utility area. The cellar had been previously been converted by a local general builder, however the waterproofing system used was sub-standard meaning the basement remained extremely wet, and was prone to flooding caused by a broken land drain. Additionally it became apparent the basement was structurally unstable at the rear of the property, where the previous builder had dug down below the foundations, but not underpinned.

To repair the damage and make the property structurally safe we underpinned the rear wall and stripped everything back to the bare stone, before installing our comprehensive waterproofing system, insulating and boarding the space out ready for decoration. Alistair and Liz now have an additional 30 square meters of living space they can enjoy.

The Solution Installed:
Basement Systems Full waterproofing system comprising:

  • 2 x sump pumps with battery back-up
  • sub-floor drainage system
  • floor waterproofing
