Case Study: Sterndale Road, Sheffield

"We are very happy that we chose YB Systems to convert our damp and cold victorian cellar into a downstairs flat complete with kitchen and bathroom. YB Systems were flexible and very helpful during the tendering process and they worked throughout in effective partnership with our architect and ourselves. The quality of work has been of a very high standard including managing some daunting engineering, achieved successfully in close cooperation with the structural engineer.

Richard leads a very effective team. Throughout they were cheerful and friendly. It has been a pleasure working with them, and we have a magnificent new addition to the house "

Gill & John

The House:
A stone built Victorian, bay-fronted semi-detached house in Sheffield, S7.

The Conversion:
Basement Size: 44 sq. m split across 4 areas

Project Duration: 16 weeks

John and Gill wished to add value to their home. They had employed an architect to deign a self-contained, single bedroom flat within their large basement. We joined the project after successfully winning a tender for the work.
In addition to the standard waterproofing work, there were several structural alterations which needed to be made. These included a large light-well to enable external access, and removal of internal walls to maximise the use of the space and create a more practical layout. We worked alongside the structural engineers to insert new RSJ beams to support the bay window and upper storeys of the property.
The interior was finished in birch plywood, rather than traditional plasterboard to create an unusual and modern look. The project was completed with a fully fitted kitchen and easy access shower room.
